Trip to Nzulezo – The Village on Stilts
We will pick you up from your hotel in the Cape Coast area between 6 and 8 a.m. It’s about a 4-hour drive through Sekondi-Takoradi, the capital of the Western Region, heading west. From Beyin, the village of Nzulezo can only be reached by a small boat. The life of the community, comprising around 500 people, takes place almost entirely on boats and planks driven into the lakebed on stilts. For centuries, the people here have engaged in fishing and farming, though modern life has not passed by unnoticed. You can get to know the daily life of the people, have a drink at a pub, or enjoy freshly fried fish. In Beyin, it is possible to visit the small Appolonia fortress and learn about the culture of the Nzema people. After about 11-12 hours, you will return to your hotel.
